WordPress Plugins – What Plugins Do I Really Need For My Blog?

Apr04

Leave a Comment Written by Info-Expert

There are tons of WordPress plugins you can use on your blog.  I get asked all the time which WordPress plugins are the best to use and how many should be used on a blog.

When I first started, I though using a lot of plugins was fine since I could add some cool features to my blog really easy.  Do a search under the plugins and you will find thousands of really cool plugins.  The question is whether you really need that feature or not?

I found out the hard way that less plugins are the better way to go.  Google now uses your pages load time in its algorithm for ranking your site.  The bottom line is that your site will load slower the more plugins you have.  So I know implement a minimal amount of plugins and do everything I can to optimize my site.  I believe having a clean looking site and fast load times make the user much happier.

1. Akismet

2. W3 Total Cache

3. Google XML Sitemaps

4. Contact Form 7

5. All In One SEO

Let me know your opinion on this and what plugins you think are essential?

Blogging Lesson 8 – 5 Ways To Use A Blog To Drive Traffic To Your Website

Blogs can be used for many different purposes as you have been learning from our previous lessons.  In this final lesson, we will concentrate on several powerful techniques that many information marketers, product resellers, and affiliates use to drive tons of traffic to their websites or affiliates websites.

These techniques are used by more experienced marketers since it is assumed that you have a blog and an associated website.  The idea here is to get users to your blog and then get them to go to your website.  So if you just have a blog but want to sell products, you should think about creating a minisite website that is strictly focused on the product you are trying to sell.  For example, if you are selling an eBook you would create a blog that focuses on the topic or niche of the eBook.  You can then have a link from the blog to the website that is setup to sell your eBook.   Here are some ideas you can implement to drive traffic from the blog to your website.

1. Affiliate Links

Affiliate links is one of the best ways to drive visitors to your website or your affiliate web site.  The idea is to have a graphic or banner promoting a particular product on your blog.  When a visitor clicks on the graphic or banner ad, they will then be taken to the product website.  This technique works really well when you promote products on your blog that are related to the blog niche.

2. Product Reviews

You can post Product Reviews to your blog that promote a product you are selling.  Make sure you explain why they should buy the product, how the product will meet a specific need they have (i.e., make them money, etc.), what comes with the product (i.e., eBook, videos, bonuses),and include a link to the product website.

3. Ezine Articles

One effective way to drive traffic to your blog and website is to post interesting articles to ezine directories.  Ezine directories are free directories on the web that allow users to post articles on a wide range of subjects.  Each ezine directory has its own rules but most of them require that the articles be originally written.  The idea here is that you write an article about a topic in your blog niche and then you post it to the ezine directory.  Make sure you include links to your blog and websites in the articles.  Now when interested visitors read your articles, there is a chance they will visit your blog and then refer out to your website.  I find that many of the visitors want to see your blog first and then if they like it, they visit your product website.

4. Links

You need to think of your blog as your own personal promotion space.  You need to include links to your product websites in different areas of your blog.  For example, you can create a blog page on your blog that has product recommendations for your products with links to their associated websites.  Just review the layout of your website and think about how you can maximize this idea.

This concludes all the Blogging lessons.  I hope you have enjoyed the lessons and have decided to make money from creating blogs.

Setting up a new blog can be easy but making the blog popular and acceptable to online users is another story.  There are practically millions of blogs out there competing for attention from the users and how do you make yours stand out in the crowd?  Here are six tips to help you achieve this goal.

1. Informative Posts

Make sure you post only information that is useful and can be put to immediate use by your readers. People are always looking for solutions to their problems and if you can give them the solution they are looking for they will be back for more!

2. Fresh Content

Don’t go for the PLR article packs and post them without making changes.  They are posted all over the web and people may have seen those same articles.  Just make sure you make modifications and personalize any PLR articles you buy.

3. Unique Information

Make your information unique so that it cannot be found anywhere else.  It is important that you present your visitors with unique and relevant content that you write on your own.

4. Create A Sensation

Try to create a promotion or sensation on your blog such as a contest or giving away money for being a certain number visitor.

5. Subscriber Rewards

Give away frequent gifts and downloads for your loyal subscribers. This is one way to get them to join your subscribers list.  The bigger the number of subscribers you have the more success you can expect from your blogging.

6. Visit Other Blogs

Go out and visit other blogs in your niche. Try to post friendly comments and invite the blogger and the visitors of those blogs to visit yours.  If you post informative and friendly posts, you can attract some of their visitors to your blog.

This concludes Lesson 7.  Lesson 8 will be on 5 Ways To Use A Blog To Drive Traffic To Your Website.  Until our next lesson.

Blogging Lesson 6 – 5 Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog

Driving traffic to your blog will become very important as you continue to develop your blog.  As you implement the concepts we have covered in earlier emails, you will start to see more and more visitors.  There are some specific techniques for blogs that you can use to drive traffic to your blog.  Remember the key to having a successful blog is getting traffic to your site.  It’s not just about getting a ton of traffic but getting right traffic.

Some bloggers have learned the hard way that you can get a ton of visitors to a blog but if they don’t post comments or click on your links, then some of your financial blog goals may not be met.  Here are some ways you can implement to drive traffic to your blog.

1. Blog and Ping

Blog and ping is a concept used by blog software where you “ping” search engines to let them know you have made a new blog post.  Once you ping the search engines, then they will send spiders to your blog to review the new content in order to index it.  The more original and keyword rich the blog post is, the better chance you have at getting the post indexed higher in the search results.  You will need to include ping servers in your blog software settings.  This is something you will have to learn more about.  There are existing lists of ping servers out there you can use.

2. Blog Directories

Blog directories are frequented by thousands of people everyday looking for interesting blogs to visit.  You should list your blog in the more popular blog directories as it is becoming more popular for users to check blog directories rather than just doing a random search on a search engine.  This is because search engines will also turn up websites in the results; whereas, blog directories only list blogs.

3. Blogs Carnivals

Blog carnivals are another way of channeling traffic to your blog.  With blog carnivals, you actually get to introduce your blog to a group of people with similar interests.  If they are interested in your blog, they may pay a visit.  This is a great way to get some focused traffic to your blog.

4. Blog Comments

Visit other blogs in your niche and post intelligent comments on those blogs. The visitors to those blogs will see the posts you make and if they are good they may visit your blog.

5. Forums

Participating in forums is another good way to drive traffic and build loyal visitors to your blogs. People who join highly targeted forums have similar interests to yours and would likely be interested in your offer to visit your blog.  Start by looking for several forums related to your niche and then join them.  Participate in the discussion and post a link back to your blog in your signature file.  Every time you make a post, the forum members will see your message and the signature link back to your blog.

Blogging Lesson 5 – 5 Tips To Successful Blogging

Aug04

Leave a Comment Written by Info-Expert

Becoming a successful blogger takes time.  There is no get rich quick scheme with blogging.  It takes time for you to learn about all aspects of blogging.  I can tell you from experience that blogging can create a study income and can be very enjoyable.

I think of blogging as one part of my income stream.  Creating multiple streams of income will give you better balance and create more stability in your monthly income planning.  So I have included some tips below that can help you become a successful blogger.

1. Promote Your Blog (Get Links)

One of the most important things you can do for your blog is to promote it.  Promoting your blog is a broad subject that people have dedicated entire books to.  Several popular techniques to get visitors to your blog, are writing articles to submit to ezine directories, getting backlinks, submitting your blog to search engines, etc.  You should get books on these subjects and talk to others about them.  You can also learn more about these subjects from my blog OnlineTrafficBlogger.com.

2. Optimize Your Blog (SEO And Keywords)

Another really important task you will have is to make sure your blog is optimized properly for search engines.  Search engines will be one of the best ways to get visitors to your site.  So you need to make sure you learn about search engine optimization (SEO) and how to incorporate keywords into your blog and how search engines work.  The key with blogs is to make sure that your blog posts are based on keywords that are popular with search engines.  You need to get a list of keywords that are popular in your niche and focus your blog posts on topics that incorporate the keywords.

You can use the Google Keyword tool to check for the popularity of keywords you enter.  The Google Keyword tool can be found here (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal).  You can also check out my SEO Unmasked (www.seounmasked.com) eBook that completely covers search engine optimization.  There are also lots of blogs on this topic including my blog at www.onlinetrafficblogger.com.

3. Write Powerful Blog Posts

This is a technique I covered in a previous email and is very important to master.  Blog posts are really the heart of your blog and can make the difference whether you get visitors to keep coming back.  Many bloggers make the mistake of just putting up poorly written posts or posts that are not related to the website niche.  This usually results in visitors not returning to the blog.  You want to write posts that are related to your niche, have an interesting subject line, may contain graphics, and are written in a conversational style.

4. Interact With Your Visitors

Successful bloggers have a loyal following of regular visitors to their blogs.  These bloggers are able to create a community with their visitors since they are highly interactive with them and provide great blog content.  So make sure you provide blog content that brings visitors to your blog and gets them to post comments.  Make sure you respond regularly to visitor comments.  You can also post questions back and forth with visitors to make it more of a conversational style.

5. Join Blogging Forums To Learn

One mistake I think people make when doing an online business is that they tend to isolate themselves.  To be successful at blogging, you need to learn the tricks of the trade and get new ideas.  Joining a blogging forum or reading a blog for bloggers can give you more insight from people that have been bloggers longer than you.  You can also meet people who are newbies and have the same questions you do.  Building relationships with others in your areas of interest will help you as your online business grows.

This concludes Lesson 5.  Lesson 6 will be on 5 Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog.  Until our next lesson.
